Transforming Indigenous Employment through Testing and Tagging: Tasman Power and Yura Yarta Partnership
A New Standard for Indigenous Employment in the Pilbara
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Tasman Power and Yura Yarta are setting a new standard for Indigenous employment in the Pilbara, while prioritising compliance and safety. By providing accessible skills training and creating sustainable career pathways, this partnership is paving the way for Indigenous workers to thrive in the electrical and safety sectors.
The Accessibility of Test & Tag
Unlike traditional electrical trades, testing and tagging does not require a trade qualification, making it an accessible and valuable skill for many. This opens doors for Indigenous workers looking to enter the industry, gain hands-on experience, and build sustainable careers. Already, the program is gaining momentum, with Amali Gibson, and several Indigenous Trade Assistants completing their training and actively contributing to the initiative.
A Collaborative Approach to Safety & Compliance
Currently, a Tasman Power electrician and a Yura Yarta team member conduct quarterly testing and tagging services across the Pilbara, ensuring that workplaces remain compliant with essential safety regulations. This structured approach not only reinforces high safety standards but also provides Indigenous workers with the opportunity to gain practical industry experience.
Building a Sustainable Future for Indigenous Leadership
With Tasman Power holding key contracts across the region, this program goes beyond compliance—it’s a stepping stone toward economic empowerment and long-term industry leadership for Indigenous workers. The vision is for Yura Yarta to take the lead, developing dedicated teams that will manage and grow the program independently.
This initiative will leave a legacy of opportunity, capability, and self-sufficiency for Indigenous workers in the Pilbara. By investing in skills development and industry leadership, Yura Yarta is driving real change—one step at a time.
